Dear Friends,
I am sitting at my kitchen table on a cold, rainy Texas day. When I woke Christian this morning, he said to me, "Mom, is this Monday?" I said, "Yes, it is," to which he replied, "Not again!"
Ever felt that way?
I think one of the greatest challenges in our lives as believers is to hold onto the hope we have in Christ on a daily basis. Life is so....daily! I seem to wash the same clothes over and over. I just clean up from one meal and it's time for another. I take Tink and Belle, our Bichon's, out for a walk and ten minutes later, Tink is staring at me with an intensity that could bore through steel, willing me to take her for another one. If we are not careful and intentional, life can be somewhat overwhelming.
This morning I turned in my Bible to Peter's first letter and his opening greeting gave me a new perspective on my day:
“I, Peter, am an apostle on assignment by Jesus, the Messiah, writing to exiles scattered to the four winds. Not one is missing, not one forgotten. God the Father has his eye on each of you, and has determined by the work of the Spirit to keep you obedient through the sacrifice of Jesus. May everything good from God be yours!” 1 Peter 1-2 (emphasis added)
For me, that sure beats a simple "Hello, how are you?"
Since I read that, I have been thinking about the truth that our lives can be a blessing or a curse, our words can bring hope or disappointment. I'm not suggesting that we go around with a "Pollyanna" attitude that everything is fine but rather to remind ourselves and one another that we have a future and a hope that is sure and confident in Christ. No matter what is going on in your life today, remember that God is always working on your behalf.
So, I add my voice to Peter's this week and pray that everything good from God be yours!
I have to go, Tink is staring at me!
Love,
Sheila
